Costa Smeralda will begin its journey on November 30, 2019. Due to a delay of one month in the delivery by the Turku’s Meyer shipyards in Finland. Costa Cruises has had to cancel the cruises and the previously planned inaugural activities. The first cruise on the Costa Smeralda will then start on November 30, 2019 from Savona.
Costa Cruises is providing travel agencies and guests who have booked departures with what will be the new flagship before November 30, 2019.
The itinerary, which will be proposed until April 2021, remains unchanged: a week in the western Mediterranean with stopovers in Savona (Saturday), Marseille (Sunday), Barcelona (Monday), Palma de Mallorca (Tuesday), Civitavecchia (Thursday) and La Spezia (Friday).
“Our priority is to offer a unique experience; unfortunately, the Meyer shipyard in Turku needs additional time to satisfy this essential requirement – explained Costa Crociere general manager Neil Palomba – Costa Smeralda is a totally innovative project. Particularly, the LNG propulsion, in which we always firmly believed, represents a unique example in the responsible innovation sector able to considerably reduce emissions, marking a major step in the cruise industry. We are sorry for the delay and we apologize to all our guests who had already booked the Costa Smeralda cruises scheduled before November 30th. We hope to have them onboard on our new flagship and we have already started to prepare the offer for the new departure dates”.
Costa Smeralda will be fueled, both in port and at sea, with Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), the most environmentally friendly fossil fuel in the world, able to guarantee a low impact.
The flagship will be a tribute to the best of Italy. The names of decks and public areas are dedicated to famous places and squares in Italy. The food and wine offer will refer to the Italian tradition and will rely on partners of excellence. The ship will have 11 restaurants, of which one designed especially for families, 19 bars, a spa area with 16 treatment rooms, a water park with slides, 4 swimming pools and a children’s area. Costa Smeralda will also have its own onboard museum, the CoDe – Costa Design Museum, dedicated to the excellence of Italian design.
