MSC push on luxury, carrying out an ad hoc division: in recent days has announced the CEO in the person of Michael Ungerer for the new luxury brand of the company.
Ungerer has thirty years of experience in the luxury sector with cruises and hospitality industry. He will be operating mainly from the Geneva headquarters and will report directly to the executive chairman of MSC Cruises Pierfrancesco Vago.
“This appointment marks an important step forward the development of our new luxury brand – said Vago – for us, it is a natural step after the creation of the MSC Yacht Club, our idea of a luxury brand to make passengers live an exclusive experience in a kind of a ship in the ship.”
The new luxury brand comes after the order, confirmed in Fincantieri at the beginning of 2019, for the construction of four ships for luxury cruises. The units, which have a total value of more than 2 billion euros, will have a gross tonnage of about 64 thousand tons.
The delivery of the first ship is scheduled before the spring of 2023. The next three ships will enter service in the following years, one per year, until 2026.
In addition to attention to detail, these ships will be equipped with the latest and most advanced environmental and maritime technologies. They will be superyachts with a highly innovative design and will introduce in the luxury sector a wide range of new services and activities for passengers, as well as new spaces to share.
The new CEO said he was “honoured to be able to carry out a unique project like this. This is the culmination of a career in the luxury hospitality and cruise sectors – he added – I am excited to be able to work closely with a visionary leader like Pierfrancesco Vago and with a historical name in shipping like the Aponte family, which has managed to build a sustainable business over the years, pursuing a culture focused on people, with values that I deeply share ».
