The Port of Naples has reached an important milestone by completing its first ship-to-ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation. The operations involved the Sun Princess, the flagship of the Princess Cruises fleet, and were carried out using the Green Zeebrugge, a specialized tanker managed by Axpo. The operation was made possible thanks to a teamwork effort involving Axpo itself, Studio di Ingegneria Benvenuto & Associati for the design, and Bureau Veritas for the technical safety verification, ensuring full compliance with strict Italian maritime regulations.

This success represents a fundamental step forward for the creation of sustainable, low-emission infrastructure within the cruise sector in Italy. Simone Rodolfi of Axpo and Alberto Moroncelli of Bureau Veritas emphasized how this project demonstrates the importance of technical cooperation to support the ecological transition of the maritime industry. Meanwhile, the Sun Princess will continue to benefit from this technology as its summer season progresses, which will see it engaged in a series of itineraries in the Western Mediterranean until October.
