Royal Caribbean, MSC and Costa Cruises Invest 41 million for Cruise Terminal in La Spezia

It`s been about one month without updates on the news about the joint venture by Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises for the construction and management of the new cruise terminal in La Spezia.

The discussion will be the reception service for cruise passengers and the construction of the maritime station on the pier that will extend from Calata Paita towards the center of the first basin.

After the first public session since last January 17, the Authority of Harbor System Committee met again with the delegates of the three companies on February 22. The technical offer provided by the temporary group was considered suitable, which has been verified during other six committee meetings in private earlier this month. The next step of the meeting was to open the Case C with economic offer inside. The delegates in presence were the joint venture lawyer Luigi Cocchi, Paolo Gatto from MSC, Karina Santini for Royal Caribbean, Roberto Ferrarini and Pietro Pellerano from Costa.

The session was suspended given that the amount of economic and financial documents are to be examined and the accuracy of all the checks are to be ensured. It will take about two weeks for the commissioners from Authority of Harbor System to meet privately, in order to verify or check the economic and  financial plan and the internal rate of return in the offer.

Meanwhile, the total planned investment is 41,073,022 euros (VAT excluded). The expenses in offer are the same as those stated in the announcement, given that Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises have offered zero rebates. This is a guarantee of the validity of the offer and of the fact that the “Consortium”, as the only participant, do not have any real competitors to fight for the assignment of the La Spezia terminal.

The duration of the concession requested by the “Consortium” is 37 years, which is the maximum period that can be provided in the form of the call for tender.

Soon we will know if Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises will hold the concession for the construction of the new maritime station and if they will manage the reception service for the passengers who will transit in the port of La Spezia.
