MSC Group unveils Catalina Sugar Beach: the new Caribbean oasis in the Dominican Republic

admin il 6 August 2026

The MSC Group has announced Catalina Sugar Beach, the new exclusive beach destination located on Catalina Island, off La Romana. The project, developed in collaboration with CTL Maritime and Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, aims to completely redevelop the area to make it a leading Caribbean destination starting in November 2026. Designed to integrate with respect for the island’s protected natural monument, the facility will welcome both passengers from MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys brands, and guests from Casa de Campo resort.

The island will offer a perfect mix of relaxation and nature exploration, enriched with new high-level services. Guests will find an outdoor buffet restaurant overlooking the beach, two tropical bars (including a distinctive palapa bar), private cabanas for rent, and a water sports center. For nature lovers, a new panoramic trail will showcase local flora leading to scenic sea views, while catamaran excursions, snorkeling, and trips to Saona Island, the Caves of Wonders, or Altos de Chavón will also be available.

This new development also marks an important operational step for the Group in the Southern Caribbean. Indeed, from November 2026, MSC Opera will be homeporting in La Romana for two weekly seven-night itineraries (combinable into a single 14-night trip) that will call at Catalina Sugar Beach on every voyage, introducing for the first time a year-round offering in the region. Explora Journeys ships will also include the Dominican stop on a selection of their Caribbean itineraries.
