Hurricane Lala in Hawaii: Norwegian Cruise Line Ships Delayed in Honolulu

admin il 18 August 2026

The passage of Hurricane Lala over the Hawaiian archipelago caused several disruptions to maritime connections, forcing Norwegian Cruise Line to modify the navigation plans for two of its units. The temporary closure of Honolulu port due to bad weather delayed the return of Pride of America by one day, which was only able to dock on Sunday, August 16, 2026. Embarkation for the subsequent seven-night inter-island cruise between Hilo, Kailua Kona, Kahului, and Nawiliwili reopened in the evening, with the company working to reschedule the itinerary details.

The bad weather also impacted the Norwegian Spirit, whose stop in Honolulu, initially scheduled for August 16, was postponed to August 17. Consequently, passengers ready to embark for the 16-night cruise to Vancouver (via Hawaii and Alaska) were asked to report to the port one day later. The ship will connect the tropical islands to the Alaskan fjords, calling at picturesque ports such as Kailua Kona, Nawiliwili, Kahului, Icy Strait Point, Skagway, Sitka, and Ketchikan.
