Royal Caribbean names General Lori J. Robinson godmother of Legend of the Seas

Royal Caribbean has chosen retired U.S. Air Force General Lori J. Robinson as the godmother of Legend of the Seas, the third unit belonging to the revolutionary Icon Class. Delivered to the company in June, the ship began its operational service in early July with a series of weekly cruises in the Western Mediterranean between Italy, Spain, and France. At the end of the summer season in Europe, the flagship will undertake its first transatlantic crossing at the end of October to position itself in the United States.

The official naming ceremony will be held in Fort Lauderdale on November 11, 2026, coinciding with Veterans Day, honoring General Robinson’s 37-year military career, as the first woman to lead a unified combatant command in the history of the American armed forces. Royal Caribbean President and CEO, Michael Bayley, emphasized how the General’s leadership and spirit of service perfectly embody the ship’s name, making her the ideal figure to represent the vessel and celebrate the commitment of all military personnel among the crew and guests of the company.

After the naming ceremony, Legend of the Seas will offer a program of six-night Western Caribbean cruises and eight-night Southern Caribbean cruises, with stops in Oranjestad (Aruba) and Willemstad (Curaçao). Each itinerary departing from Fort Lauderdale will also include a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas. The godmother expressed great pride in the assigned role, highlighting the symbolic value of uniting families on their journeys and celebrating the service rendered by entire generations of veterans.

The introduction of the new flagship further strengthens Royal Caribbean’s presence in the Caribbean with state-of-the-art ships. The Icon Class continues to be the benchmark for the brand’s family offerings, combining record-breaking aquatic attractions, a wide variety of themed neighborhoods on board, and advanced energy efficiency solutions.
