Arrives the 25th Year for Silversea Cruises in Ultra-Luxury Cruise Field

Silversea Cruises reaches an important milestone in 2019: 25 years as a extra-luxury cruise line leader. Since the founding in 1994, Silversea has carried half a million guests in 4,100 journeys, accumulating over 47,800 cruise days, and the guests have travelled for a total of over 9.4 million cruise days.

The company was a pioneer of luxury and the first to propose a concept of “extra luxury all inclusive”. The story began on May 30, 1994 with the baptism of the Silver Cloud, which, at the time, was the only ship with suites equipped with a personal balcony.

Since then, Silversea guests have travelled to the world with all comforts to enjoying personalized service and an intimate atmosphere aboard, including fine food from around the world, free drinks and a butler for each suite. Many aspects have evolved over the past 25 years, but the fundamental principles have remained unchanged.

When Silversea was founded by the Lefebvre family, the vision was to launch a cruise line that had a global reach. A vision today realizes the travel experiences in over 900 destinations, from one pole to the other on Earth.

The launch of Silversea Expeditions in 2008 expanded the boundaries of the discovery of extra-luxury cruises: trips to Antarctica in the same year; west coast of Africa and Russian Arctic in 2012; Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia in 2013; Galapagos Islands, Russian Far East, Kimberley Coast in Australia, first crossing of the legendary Northwest Passage in 2014. In 2017 the company reached Bangladesh. In 2019, the Silversea guests will cross the Northeast Passage for the first time, while the first World Expedition Cruise is scheduled for 2021. And if in 1994 the Silversea guests could embark on a single ship, today there is a fleet of nine ships and five more new units are already in order.

Since the acquisition of Silversea by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd in 2018, these icons of luxury have been further enhanced by Project Invictus, which is a long-term plan for the growth and expansion of the fleet. Guests enjoy fresh and free champagne in their suites upon arrival and throughout the ship; free sustainable caviar, available 24 hours a day; an offer enriched with canapés, seafood, berries and fine cuts of meat; in addition to a further improved wine list.
